Wonderful Water with Stockton Heath

After a quick change around on Wednesday, it was time to welcome the children and Staff of Stockton Heath Primary School Warrington to Ingestre.
The children were very excited to get started, so following a quick lunch and tour, we set to work on our theme of Wonderful Water. With ideas flowing, the children were quickly able to start devising and learning stage directions, learning choreographing techniques and trying a variety of styles and new media; planning and brainstorming their ideas for their performances.
With such a broad theme, our tutors were inspired in lots of different ways; the sharing was going to be exciting!
Children in the Art Studio used Monet for inspiration to produce both small and large-scale ‘Water Lilies’ pictures, made their own “Great Wave” in the style of Hokusai’s wood cut print and looked abstractly at ripples and fountains to produce some amazing work. In Dance, the children looked at the Hans Christian Andersen version of the Little Mermaid, recreating the motion of the waves with their movements and bodies, and showing ingenious ways of retelling the story with their musicality. Drama students transported us via a shipwreck to a desert island, complete with mirages and an underground water source!
The Stockton Heath Staff were very proud of their children’s achievements, their ability to work together and be creative with their thoughts and their approach to their work this week. It was encouraging to see children being supportive of each other, being helpful, trying new things and working as a team. And, they’ve already booked their residential for next year with us!
