This week Ingestre was home to the children from Highfield’s Primary school. The theme for the week was the ‘American Dream’. This is a favoured theme for Highfield’s and something that fits in perfectly with the students curriculum of the American Civil War and modern history. The group created some brilliant works in Visual Art, Drama, Dance and Music.
In music the group recorded, rehearsed and performed two topical tracks about cowboys and the American Civil War. The music group had worked in two separate bands to write lyrics and record vocals. With the help of our music tutor Ollie, the group finished the week with two fully produced tracks, both of which showcased the students individual and collective talents.
The drama group went on an all American road trip exploring the golden coast of California, the dangerous wild west, culminating their trip around America with the iconic New York City. The drama group worked tirelessly on their performance with many students coming out of their comfort zones to deliver a brilliant performance in front of their peers in the other arts groups.
The dance group worked on contact improvisation techniques with Tara, choreographing a beautiful performance that used speeches from Martin Luther King mixed in with more contemporary dance styles of today. The artists worked with Heather to create and design a range of unique artworks. They showcased watercolour pictures of the New York skyline, American flags and a big print of the Statue of Liberty , displaying some great creativity and artistic flair.
The group enjoyed a fantastic week with us here at Ingestre. However, there was more to the week than just the Arts! There was a visit to our interactive WWI installation, picnics in the grounds, football, table football, movie nights in the 3D cinema and to top it all off a disco on their last night together at Ingestre Hall.
All in all it was an extremely fun and creative week with Highfield’s Primary school. We look forward to welcoming them all to Ingestre again!
