"Creative learning at its best"

As we start to wind down for the summer holidays there seems to be an increasing sense of mindfulness around the hall. This week Ingestre hosted the students from Dormston School, Dudley for a week of Drama, Dance, Art and Music workshops. The theme for the week was Resilience, which offered the students a rather broad narrative in which to create.
In what was a difficult week in terms of many students staying away from home for the first time, the group should be extremely proud of what they managed to achieve. The group created in their respective workshops throughout the week before coming together to share their creations on Thursday afternoon.
In Drama we were treated to a story of resilience portrayed through the struggles of JK Rowling and her push to get Harry Potter published.
In Art we were given a stunning exhibition down in Ingestre’s cellars, with some edgy disco lighting, the exhibition was presented in an installation style, resulting in some gasps from the audience.
In Music, Ollie and Kate had worked with the extremely large group, to write, record and perform four different tracks working in four different bands. This is a tremendous achievement, not only to have been able to write and record four songs in such a small period of time, but to also perform (to a high quality) in front of all of your friends, is something that not many people can say they have done in a week!
In Dance we had an extremely dramatic and expressionistic performance that the group of girls had choreographed completely by themselves. Throw In a few timely lighting techniques and some rose petals, the dancers created a beautiful performance that wouldn’t be out of place at a dance festival!
During their stay, students also experienced a range of other activities. Students got to explore over 25 acres of stunning grounds, challenge their friends to a game of table football or table tennis and not to mention, let their hair down at the Ingestre disco on Thursday night.
All in all there were some inspiring works created in all four art forms for which the students should indeed be very proud.
We look forward to welcoming Dormston back to Ingestre again in the future !
