Myths and Legends with Coppice Junior
King Arthur, Robin Hood, Dragons, Wizards…. Ingestre had it all. This week Ingestre was host to the wonderful children from Coppice Junior School. The week was action packed full of creativity and fun exploring British myths and legends.
In Drama, Richard and his students told the tale of Sir Gawain and his quest to find the Green Knight. In Art, Heather and her artists made a huge amount of work ranging from Dragon eyes to medieval portraits. In Dance, Tara and her dancers choreographed their own version of the tales of the Loch Ness monster focusing on how myths and legends play on people’s fears. In Music, Ollie, John and vocal specialist Kate worked with the musicians to create two tracks. One track focused on the notorious story of Robin Hood whilst the other looked at the legendary tales of King Arthur.
The group’s work was showcased at the end of the week with a final performance in front of 60+ visiting parents who had made the trip to Ingestre to see the culmination of their children’s wonderful week. Every student had created unique and exciting work, which resulted in an intriguing final sharing.
The group also enjoyed a range of social activities in between workshops. We had a visit to our interactive WW1 exhibition, night walks in the grounds and even a disco to top off all of the other exciting games of table tennis, table football and air hockey. The group really did make the most of their time with us, not just within the creative realm but also by completely immersing themselves with all things Ingestre.
We would like to say a massive thank you to all of the students, parents and staff that made Coppice Junior’s visit so special. We hope to see you all again soon!
