"Creative learning at its best"

What a week; a fantastic group of nearly 80 students from Hagley came to Ingestre and experienced an exciting arts programme jam packed with creativity, fun and performance. The theme for the week was conflict, a powerful and relevant topic, linked to the schools curriculum but also to the lives of the children who, in this climate of change, were helped to understand that in order to build a better future, building dialogue and expression through the arts can generate resilience and opportunity. The group tackled the subject with respect, creative intuition and maturity.
This was the first time that Hagley Primary had been to Ingestre Hall; upon arrival the children and adults alike were awestruck by the beauty of the magnificent hall nestled in 20 acres of tranquil Staffordshire countryside. After settling in, it was straight into arts sessions with students devising, creating and performing in Drama, Music, Art, Dance and Animation.

The result of exploring the topic in depth? Four fantastic songs featuring lyrics and melodies pointing the way to a better world, a wide range of Visual Art works focusing on the theme of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, two fantastic Dance pieces expressing conflict and resolution scenarios whilst in Animation, we followed the story of a Syrian refugee living in the UK. In Drama we witnessed two distinct yet linked performances showing us all how differences can be used as a force for good and bad.

Anything else? Yes, lots; a huge bonfire, a visit to Ingestre’s WWI interactive exhibition, a trip to the Orangery and much more. To finish the week the group held one of Ingestre Hall's biggest ever discos to date! After a long week of creativity it was great to see the children and staff relax and let off some steam on the dance floor and not to mention the teachers’ incredible DJ skills!
